Critique Groups & Meet Ups
Meet ups are ongoing, informal gatherings at which our members discuss any topic that interests them. It is a chance to discuss your writing life with others who know what it means to be working at writing for children. Please contact Kristi Herro for more information.
• Edina, Barnes & Noble, Galleria. Meet-ups on the third Tuesday night of the month, 7:00 pm at the Barnes and Noble bookstore lower level coffee shop (in the Galleria shopping complex). ALL are welcome. Bring 4 to 5 copies of your work to share if you would like to have it critiqued. We break up into small groups based on genres.
These critique groups are for MNSCBWI members only.
If you are looking for a critique group, or would like to start a new one, contact Kristi Herro for assistance.
• The East Metro critique group meets the last Wednesday of each month from 6:45 to 8:15 pm at Maplewood Library. Our members write for all ages. We email ahead of time work for review. At the meeting, the author reads a portion of the work and then we give respectful feedback. Lots of great discussion and opinions, some supportive and some contradictory. If interested, please email: Wynee Igel
• The South Minneapolis critique group meets bi-monthly at the Washburn Library.
Frequency: We meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month and submit a piece via email to the group the Sunday before to be critiqued for that following Tuesday meeting, so two pieces a month to be submitted and 3 – 4 (depending on the size of our group) to critique twice a month.
Genre: We are interested in all genres, but mainly focus on picture books — recently all of us worked on fictional magazine stories for the Highlights contest.
At this time our group is full. We will post when we have openings again.
If interested, please email: Heidi Phelps
• Motley, MN. The Motley Crew critique group meets monthly or every other month in Motley, MN. Currently with six members and newcomers are welcome for now. If interested, please email: Georgia Greely
• Rochester, MN. Our Critique Group is for those writing for children – all levels. We meet at Barnes & Noble Coffee Shop, Apache Mall. Since there is a second Barnes & Noble downtown this distinction of location is important.
Frequency: We meet monthly on the third Monday at 6:30 pm, and for now, since the group is small, we will email a piece to the other members to read ahead of time so that we have plenty of time for critique and brainstorming during the meeting. We can revise the process later if need be.
